Valve gives an insight into the highest-earning games of the year. The titles within the top 100 games are randomly ordered by category, as part of the sixth annual Top Sellers list. The games in the Platinum category made the most money.
There are several free-to-play games at the top. The Platinum tier is dominated by old favorites, including the likes of Grand Theft Auto V and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
It's the sixth year in a row that Grand Theft Auto V, and other games, have made it into the top tier. The two games made the cut for the fifth time. The Platinum tier has featured the game every year since it was released.
The four releases that made it into the top 12 are Battle Royale title Naraka: Bladepoint. Valheim, a survival game made by just five people, is one of the biggest money makers, as is New World, a game that Amazon has finally made a hit game.
Four games that won game of the year awards at The Game Awards are included in the second group of 12 games. Final Fantasy XIV Online is one of the older titles in that section.
The Silver section includes releases such as Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The Sims 4, Monster Hunter: World and Team Fortress 2 are all in that category.
The fact that four of the top 24 earning games were from the same publisher, including three new releases, is a key point. Microsoft had several games in the top tiers, even though they were all on the PC Game Pass. The Sea of Thieves, and its predecessors, are all in the Gold category. The paid campaign of the game was only out for a week before the list stopped tracking earnings.
New World, Battlefield 2042, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Sea of Thieves are some of the games that have been discounted. Cyberpunk 2077, Valheim and Back 4 Blood are included in the sale.
