Some people are getting 3,000 points per World of Hyatt Club Access award. The award is useless for Globalist members.
I chatted with Hyatt through the World of Hyatt app. I earned four Club Access awards this year and two of them were from milestone awards that had previously been extended.
The chat rep initially said she could offer me 2,000 points per upgrade, but I pushed back saying that a couple of my friends had gotten 3000 points per club access award. The agent said she would have to check with management, but a few minutes later she came back and confirmed that she had issued me 18,000 points for my expiring club access awards. It was a nice surprise to get eighteen thousand points out of those awards since they are useless for Globalist members since they already have club access. I know a couple of Globalists who have gotten the 3,000 point offer, but Stephen was told it was only for Explorists.
I was able to get 20,000 points for a Category 1-8 award that was set to end on 12/31, and 10,000 points for a Category 1-4 award that was set to end on 12/31. I was happy to be able to get the points a few days ahead of the certificate's expiration, because Hyatt has frequently offered points after that. The sting of accepting less than full value on the free night certificates was alleviated by the unexpected score on the club access awards.
I redeemed 6 club access awards and 2 free night certificates for 48,000 points this morning. It is kind of a shame that Hyatt isn't offering it to everyone, but only to those who request it, and since the points don't expire, you won't hear me complain about the resolution I received. I don't know if you have recourse if you accepted fewer points, but I would be surprised if Hyatt retroactively offered you more.
If you have expiring awards, it is worth talking to someone via the app or the desktop site. Stephen wrote his original post.
Marriott, IHG, and Hilton extended some free night certificates where guests hadn't been able to redeem them yet.
Hyatt had been a notable holdout but there has been a little movement on that front and, when it comes to Club Access Awards, they are being unexpectedly generous. If you don't have top-tier status, it's still worth reaching out to them.
Here is a breakdown of what you can expect from Hyatt based on the type of awards.
Night certificates are free.
Hyatt is offering either a 6 month extension or 10,000 bonus points for category 1-4 certificates that are due to expire at the end of 2021. Hyatt is offering a 6 month extension or 20,000 bonus points for category 1-8 certificates.
Suite upgrade awards
Hyatt is giving Suite upgrade awards for 6 months from the date of extension rather than 6 months from the end of the year, so if you have awards that are up on December 31, 2021, you can get them for 6 months. It won't make a huge difference for most people, but it's something to think about if you're planning on staying for the last week of June.
The awards for club access.
Hyatt is offering bonus points for Club Access Awards that are due to expire in December of 2021. If you move past Explorist status, you will no longer have access to the Club Lounge, which is why you will not have a full suite of Club Access Awards.
Initial reports said members were getting 500 bonus points per Club Access Award, but reader Pam said she received 1,000 bonus points per Award. If you still have all four Club Access Awards earned in 2020, you can get a free night at a category 1 property, which is almost enough for a free night for Globalist members.
If you only get 500 or 1000 points per award, it could be worth pushing them for more, as they have gotten 3,000 points per Club Access Award.
Globalist members only?
Hyatt appears to be only giving generosity to Globalist members, which is a downside to this newfound flexibility. If you only have Discoverist or Explorist status, you will be out of luck.
Don't assume that will be the case. You can reach out to Hyatt Concierge on social media even though you won't have access to the concierge that 60 night Globalist members receive as one of their Milestone rewards. They are still helpful and you will hopefully get an agent who will give you some bonus points in exchange for certificates or awards. All World of Hyatt members can get the Hyatt Concierge team. Readers are reporting success with the chat function in the Hyatt app.
My experiences have been.
My wife had a category 1-4 certificate. Hyatt Concierge doesn't have a concierge of her own, so I reached out to her on the social media site. We accepted 10,000 bonus points offered by that agent.
I messaged Hyatt Concierge on the social networking site last night to see if they would respond quicker than I would get from my own concierge who might have Sundays off.
I wanted to get points for the expiring Club Access Awards and an extension for the expiring Suite Upgrade Awards, so I was hoping to get 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 888-349-8884 I am still waiting to hear back from them, but I am sure they have been getting a lot of similar requests since the changes were published.
I heard from Hyatt Concierge on social media. They gave me 1,000 points for each of my four Club Access Awards, but only extended one of them. It looks like it is time to try out the chat function on the Hyatt app.
Your experiences.
