China Eastern had canceled 405 flights, and Air China had canceled 193 flights. Lion Air had canceled more than 100 flights.

Almost half of the flights that were canceled on Sunday were departures from or arriving in the US.

Some flights by Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, and other airlines have been suspended in Hong Kong. Some arrivals in Hong Kong tested positive for the virus.

There has been a wave of airline staff sickness.

Some US airlines have blamed staff members who have been exposed to the coronaviruses for their cancelations.

A United spokesman told the outlet that it was unclear when operations would return to normal, and that Omicron's impact on staffing was unexpected. The senior vice-president of flight operations at United said in a staff memo obtained by CNBC that coronaviruses are on the rise among the airline's pilots.

The airline was trying to cancel flights that would cause the least disruption to passengers because of an increasing number of sick calls, according to a spokesman.

The US has the most cases of Omicron in the world. Some data suggests that the variant's symptoms are milder than previous ones.

The spokespeople for Delta, Alaska, and Southwest told Fox Business that the weather conditions in Washington on Sunday were to blame for some of the cancelations.

The airline's holiday flight schedule was affected by winter weather and the Omicron variant. Delta had canceled 748 flights between Friday and Sunday, including 161 mainline and connection flights that were scheduled for Sunday, and staff were working to get customers where they need to be as quickly and safely as possible.
