The Africa Cup of Nations, which was supposed to be held in 2021, will be held in October. Six different winners have been seen in the last six tournaments, and there are plenty of teams that want to win this year.

Some fans of English teams who will miss their players for several matches in January are annoyed by the tournament, which is in the middle of the European soccer calendar. When clubs sign African players, they know that they could lose them to the African Cup of Nations every two seasons, and they have plenty of time to make contingency plans.

Managers of African national teams have a difficult time with the timing of the AFCON. The players should be released by December 27th, two weeks before the tournament starts. The World Leagues Forum has told the world of football that clubs that have not started their winter break yet would not have to release players until January 3.

The managers of Egypt and Senegal would have to start preparing for the tournament without their two best players, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The second goal of Sadio Mane of the Reds was scored against Crystal Palace in the June 24, 2020 match at the Anfield. The photo was taken by Shaun Botterill.

The African side with the highest ranking in the world, and with other stars like a goalkeeper from the English club, and a defender from the Italian club, they are one of the favorites for the tournament.

They lost to Algeria in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, and both of them are doubts for the upcoming tournament.

Covid-19 worries have meant that teams have been allowed to name 28 players so that there are less likely to be postponements. This has given Cisse more room to pick stars even if they are not in top shape.

Cisse has been in charge of Senegal since 2015, and has taken them to the World Cup in Russia and the final of the African Cup of Nations.

Nigeria fans can only dream of stability after the country sacked their manager. Even though Nigeria have more players from England or Scotland in their side than any other nation, interim manager Augustine Eguavoen will have a long time to prepare his side for their difficult opener against Egypt. There are eight Nigerian players in England or Scotland, from a player in the premier league to a holding player.

There are six players from clubs in England's premier league or Championship in the two countries. The team named by Morocco is almost entirely made up of players from Europe, but that won't be the case for the team coached by Vahid Halilhodzic.

The lack of time on the training ground and a lack of friendly matches could lead to a disorganized start to the tournament. Injuries and changes to the coaching team mean not all coaches have the option of playing the same system with the same players for an extended period of time. When they won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 a team without superstars could often punch above their weight in tournament soccer.

The lack of English-based players and home advantage could give the hosts a solid foundation to work with as they look to repeat their success from last year.

Algeria won the title of the tournament in the year 2021, and also won the Arab Cup in December of that year. Algeria's winning squad was made up of players based in the Middle East and North Africa. Most of the top African nations are mostly made up of European-based players, including Riyad and Said Benrahma.

The timing of the tournament, in the middle of the season, and the huge wave of the Omicron variant make it more unpredictable than ever.

There are around a dozen sides with a realistic chance of winning the tournament, but with this extra uncertainty, the team that can adapt to the best conditions will have a strong chance of lifting the trophy.
