The Carolina head coach made a strange analogy after his team's 32-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, which officially eliminated Carolina from playoff contention.
Rhule apologized and said that no one can see it. It took Jay-Z seven years. He had to start his own agency. It takes time.
If you don't think too hard about Rhule's comment, the level of confusion you experience is directly correlated to the amount of time spent on it. Jay-Z may not be the best parable for a coach to use, given what he did before hitting it big in the music industry.
A message like "I may need seven years to deliver results" won't inspire a lot of excitement within the fanbase, one that's already voiced its displeasure.

The odds of the team owner standing pat after a third straight lost season are bleak, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.
Carolina is currently last in the South with a 5-10 record.
A head coach's last chance to save his job is to let a top assistant go, as the franchise already did with Joe Brady. It's fair to wonder what the team would do with another year under Rhule.
He wouldn't be at the halfway point of the Jay-Z plan for success.
