Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium said that the Los Angeles Lakers wouldn't be giving a second 10-day contract to Thomas.

Multiple teams are expected to pursue the two-time All-Star, who has averaged 9.3 points and 1.5 assists in 25.3 minutes per game over four appearances with L.A.

The Lakers' decision was unexpected because they put Rajon Rondo in the NBA's health and safety protocols. Thomas could help address the void in the backcourt that was created by his absence.

He did whatever it took to return to the NBA, even if it meant competing in the NBA G League.

In his Lakers debut, Thomas dropped 19 points, showing that he can still be a prolific scorer.

His 30.8 field-goal percentage raises some concerns about his offensive efficiency. He's averaging more turnovers than assists.

The 5'9" guard has had a problem with defense for a long time, one that hasn't gotten any better as he aged and went under the knife for a hip injury.

A number of teams in the league have had their ranks decimated by the surge of COVID-19 cases. That has opened the door for older players such as Thomas who are looking for a chance in the NBA.

It's possible that Thomas will get another 10-day deal with a different franchise.
