With the previous record holder looking on from the opposing sideline, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson made history on his third catch Sunday, and he racked up the most receiving yards ever by a player in his first two seasons.

Jefferson caught a 9-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to give him 23 receiving yards in the third quarter. The Vikings' second-year receiver needed 21 yards to surpass Beckham's record of 2,755 receiving yards. Jefferson has 2,758 receiving yards.

Jefferson said he had been anticipating the record all season. Jefferson was looking at history when the receiver knew he would draw with Ramsey.

"Need 21 yards, definitely been keeping an eye on that," Jefferson said Thursday.

I'm excited. I feel like I have been living for these moments since I was a kid. I'm a natural competitor when I face that top guy. I've been a competitor since I was a kid. I'm ready for the game, I've been waiting for it for a long time. It's a statement game for me because I consider myself one of the top receivers in the league. Definitely ready for it.
