Vincent D'Onofrio on Hawkeye and Wilson Fisk's Lust for Power

The return of actors from the short lived Marvel show is one of the things that fans of the Disney+ shows want. The fans have got their wish this month, as Charlie Cox is set to return as Daredevil in the near future, and Wilson Fisk has already shown up in Hawkeye and made problems for Clint Barton and Kate Bishop.

At the start of the year, D'Onofrio was told of his return, and it has been difficult to keep the news secret. He and Cox have remained friends since Daredevil's cancellation, but D'Onofrio called it "Marvel stuff" during their phone calls. We know about all of the things that can go wrong with reveals and what we are contracted to say and not say. The two actors immediately talked about the Cox news, and not once did D'Onofrio mention his own confirmation via Hawkeye. I immediately called Charlie after seeing the phone shot of Kingpin. We are friends and we do talk about this, but we do it in an appropriate way.

Fans are still trying to figure out if the shows still fit in the canon of the films despite the fact that they couldn't really acknowledge the MCU. D'Onofrio considers it a continuation and is treating the two Fisks as a single person. Most dots are easy to connect. He said that Kingpin has lost his city. He lost some of his kingdom, but he wants his city back. The Fisk is stronger and can give more damage than the other one.

Fans were excited that Fisk was coming back to make trouble for the heroes of New York, and so far, it was a good setup. The Hawkeye finale caught a lot of fans by surprise.

Eleanor has been under Fisk's thumb for years, and Fisk is known as "the Big Guy" who Clint didn't want to grab the attention of. Eleanor decided to back out of the crime game, so he decided to kill both Barton and Bishops, and keep a low profile. Fisk was cornered by his ward, Maya Lopez, after being beaten by Kate. As the camera cuts away, Maya points her gun at Fisk, and two gunshots go off.

Many fans assumed that this meant the end of Wilson Fisk, but D'Onofrio says that he still has a future in the MCU, and that he will continue to root for the character in his abusive childhood. He said that every confrontation that he has, every emotion that he shows, comes from the events of his childhood. He is based in an emotional foundation, but his inner self is that of a child and a monster.

Fisk and Maya are from the comics. In Daredevil #15, Maya reacted violently to learning that Fisk shot her father in the eyes and left him blind. Maya left New York to find herself after Fisk recovered most of his sight. Sounds like a good idea for a spinoff. D'Onofrio was evasive when asked about Maya's spinoff, but he would be willing to do it. I remember the comic run. The father-daughter relationship between Maya and him was one of my favorites.

Fisk will be back to make trouble for New York's growing number of costumed crimefighters. He needs to rest and plan his next move.

Disney+ has a version of Hawkeye.
