Stephen Curry knew the answer.

The Golden State Warriors' star guard knew that his undermanned team had just pulled out its best win of the season, a 116-107 win over the Phoenix Suns on Christmas Day, in front of a loud, sold-out crowd at Footprint Center.

Curry dropped 33 points on the Suns and said that all things considered. It was nice to win on Christmas and on the road against the best record in the league. A huge win was the other context of the situation. Everyone stepped up. The atmosphere was great. Otto Porter Jr. took over down the stretch, so that was huge all the way around.

The Warriors jumped a half-game ahead of the Suns, with a league-best 27-6 record, after the win. In the process, Curry, who went just 4-for-21 from the field in a loss in Phoenix last month, built more confidence in himself and his candidacy for the Most Valuable Player award.

Steve Kerr said that Stephan was amazing. Even though he was missing three of his best shooting teammates, he still had a good game, scoring 33 points, even though he wasn't making shots. It was a great team win, because Draymond was brilliant, so was Green, and Kevon did a great job as well.

This particular win was even more impressive because the Warriors did it without so many rotation players, against a healthy Suns squad. With Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, and Moses Moody all in health and safety protocols, along with several assistant coaches, Klay Thompson, James Wiseman, and Iguodala still out.

Throughout the start of the Warriors' good fortune, they received contributions from up and down the roster. Otto Porter Jr. scored 13 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, hitting several clutch shots in the final moments, to help seal a win that provided the Warriors with even more confidence as they roll into January with Thompson on the way back. Curry said he spoke to Porter a couple of times before he signed with the organization and always believed he could still put together performances like he did against the Suns.

Curry said yes. Don't disrespect him. I know that he has been through a lot of injuries, but he has been working hard since he got here. You could tell he was confident and composed, and he knocked them down, so it's big.

The Warriors received a lift from recent 10-day signee, who went 3-for3 from the field in 14 minutes, while opening up some eyes with his defense. After the game, he said that several people in the organization said it was Thompson who was singing his praises to the front office after seeing the way Weatherspoon defended him.

"I've been working with Klay for three weeks now, and he's been telling the organization how I've been hipping him and defending him to get him back better," Weatherspoon said. I was just trying to stay positive, because I figured it was going to happen.

The Warriors' locker room was positive on Saturday as Curry exorcised some of the demons he'd had in Christmases past. Curry hadn't scored 20 points in a Christmas game in eight previous games. After coming out victorious on Saturday, Curry knows that his team continues to look like a group that is growing toward the kind of championship contention that many around the league were unsure could happen again.

Curry said that they were here a couple weeks ago. We had a chance to steal the win in the second half, but we competed hard, so to feel the atmosphere, understand the margins of what wins a game even if you're so many guys down. Our defensive presence tonight was amazing. We stuck with it because everybody who stepped foot on the floor took that personally. It's a step in the right direction, but it's still four months away.
