The home of Witt's parents is on the street.
The elderly parents of an actress were found dead on Monday night, and it is believed that the deaths were the result of a number of factors.
Police said there was no apparent trauma to the Witts' deaths, which remain under investigation.
The Witts were found in a house, but police did not say where or if they were together.
The neighbor said they were like one person. "One soul."
The couple was discovered after a relative asked police to check on him. According to the National Weather Service, the previous night was the lowest temperature of the month at 15 degrees.
The well-being check found the parents of actress Alicia Witt dead.
A relative lent a space heater to the couple because their furnace had stopped working, according to a dispatch. The couple had compromised immune systems.
The air quality inside the home was checked by firefighters and they found no noxious gases, but that could have been caused by emergency personnel opening doors and entering the home.
The deputy fire chief said space heaters can pose dangers. Carbon monoxide, an odorless gas that can be deadly, can be prevented by the use of fossil fuels such as propane.
Witt couldn't reach her parents.
Witt said in her statement that she had been unable to reach her parents and asked her cousin to check on them.
Mr. Witt, a former teacher, was diagnosed with cancer and confined to the couple's home at the recommendation of his doctor because of the risk of COVID-19, according to court documents.
The couple was somewhat secretive, and rarely did they turn on lights or come outside. Court records show that they had no electronics.
A couple declined the neighbor's offer to fix the heating system when it was faulty, and a neighbor said the furnace had been broken for more than a week.
Someone from the state dropped off food once a month, according to a neighbor.
She said they haven't seen them in the last four years.
The couple used city buses for transportation. A family of bunnies moved into a broken down Volkswagen after Mrs. Witt did not want them to be put out.
"They were one of the most kind and gentle people I have ever met," the neighbor said.
The Witts were proud of their daughter and looking forward to her visits, according to a neighbor.
According to court documents, Mrs. Witt may have had health problems related to the damage to their home.
Mrs. Witt said that she suffered from breathing problems, sleeping problems, and difficulties with her memory due to mold and fiberglass exposure.
The medical examiner is performing an autopsy.
The Witts' deaths are being investigated by the state medical examiner. The results could take a long time.
In a court case filed in 2011, the couple alleged that the insurance company paid out more than $110,000 in damages to their home, but documents show that the company paid out less than that.
The damage to the home was not repaired or replaced, and it is in a state of disrepair to this day, according to the lawyer.
The repairs included a tarp over the damaged roof, tree removal and wildlife removal. The Witts were told by the city to remove the tarp from the roof or face a $10,000 fine.
The Witts lived in the house for over 30 years. They had two children.
Diane Witt was listed in the Guinness World Records books for having the longest hair, which grew to 11 feet.
The actress is a child genius.
At age 5, she quoted Shakespeare and read college textbooks. She began piano lessons at a young age.
She has appeared in movies and TV shows such as "The Walking Dead," "Twin Peaks," "Orange is the New Black," and "Dune."
According to court records, Mr. Witt had fallen at least three times.
In 2012 he claimed to have fallen outside of the bank. He was injured in a fall in the Shaw's supermarket parking lot. He filed a civil action against the City of Worcester after he fell into a hole on Front Street. He was awarded $1,000.
Mr. Witt wrote that he had "incurable cancer" in one of the cases he had dated back eight years. The General Hospital is in Boston.
The Chief did not have any information about the call in which the firefighters were last at the home.
