2021 was a massive year for electric cars. 2022 will be even bigger.

The White House was more interested in cutting fuel-economy standards than supporting zero-emission cars, electric-vehicle startups had lots of orders but no sales to show for it, and Ford hadn't unveiled a battery-powered pickup truck.
It's all changed one year later.
The F-150 has gotten 200,000 reservations since it was introduced. The Biden administration wants to build 500,000 new EV charging stations. Rivian and Lucid beat the odds and started shipping luxury EV to customers.
It was a big year for the shift to electric transportation. As demand for zero-emission cars grows, production increases, and more options are added to the market, expect 2022, to be even bigger.
The F-150 will cost $40,000 in the spring of 2020.

Ford.

We should see the production capacity of the company grow dramatically in 2022. The country's most popular EV maker's ability to satisfy orders will be vastly expanded by the coming of two new plants in Berlin and Texas.
It's not the only electric-car firm that's watched today. Ford, Volkswagen, and Toyota are all planning to unleash a wave of new EV's in the next few years. The number of electric options in the US should double by the end of next year, according to Sam Abuelsamid, a principal research analyst at Guidehouse Insights.
Consumers will have an easier time finding an electric car that fits their lifestyle and budget, which should drive adoption, according to Abuelsamid. The EV-curious used to have their pick of a small or pricey car. Over the next few years, buyers will be able to browse an expanding range of battery-powered pickup trucks and SUVs, body styles that have been sorely missing from the electric market despite being precisely the types of vehicles Americans crave.
"In order for EV to generate even more success than they have had so far, they need to first and foremost be in a vehicle type that the consumer wants," Brinley said in an interview. A consumer who needs a pickup truck is not going to settle for a small electric vehicle for the sake of electricity.

The BZ4X will be the same size as the popular RAV4 when it arrives at dealerships in mid-2022.

Toyota.

The F-150 will be sold by Ford in 2022, while the first e-SUV by Cadillac will be released in the same year. The BZ4X is an electric SUV that Toyota will launch.
There will be challenges in 2022. This year's supply-chain snarls wreaked havoc across the auto sector, hitting everyone fromTesla to GM. Abuelsamid said that the computer-chip shortage or unexpected spikes in the cost of raw materials could hamper EV manufacturing in the near term.
The share of zero-emission cars in the US will increase to 5% in the next few years, according to an estimate by IHS Markit. The jump from 3% to 3% market share for electric vehicles is a big one, but it still represents a small portion of the new vehicles the firm projects will change hands next year.
Brinley said that the transition away from gas cars is just beginning and that exciting developments are on the way in 2022. The market share of EV will reach double digits in the year 2025.
Brinley said that it's not the defining moment yet. It is happening, but we have a ways to go.
