Houston Cougars' Marcus Sasser done for season with toe injury

Marcus Sasser, the leading scorer in Houston basketball, announced on Friday that he is done for the season.

A toe injury had hampered Sasser. He played in back-to-back wins over Oklahoma State and Texas State after missing the Louisiana game.

Tramon Mark, the school's leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season after having shoulder surgery. The Houston Final Four run last season was led by Mark and Sasser.

Houston was the preseason pick to win the American Athletic Conference championship.

Two of the team's three losses have been by two points: a neutral-site loss to Wisconsin and a one-point loss at Alabama.

Losing Sasser is a huge blow to the squad.

Houston made 41.4% of its 3-point attempts and averaged 116 points per 100 possessions with Sasser on the court. When he was out, the numbers were reduced to 105 points per 100 possessions and a 27.1% clip from beyond the line.

Houston will host Cincinnati in the season opener.
