The NYPD officer who was caught on video dancing to a married lieutenant at a holiday party apologized to the lieutenant's wife and said if she were a man, it wouldn't be as big of a deal.
Vera Mekuli tells us she hasn't spoken to the lieutenant since the party and hasn't been comfortable showing up at her precinct. She said her fellow officers at the station have been understanding and allowed her to work from home. She would like to return to the station house and then go back to work on the streets.
The dance went down in a bar. The young man only worked at the 44th Precinct for 4 months. She apologized to the lieutenant for the position he's in, even though she had no idea he was married.
Vera believes she can be 2 different people, one buttoned up at work and the other fun off duty. She says she did the lap dance as a dare.
She tells us she's so embarrassed she hasn't left her house. She's really sad, because it was just a fun moment for her at the Christmas party.
Vera and the Lt. are not facing any charges.
