The Chicago Bears will use veteran quarterback Nick Foles on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks because of injuries to starter Justin Fields and backup Andy Dalton, according to coach Matt Nagy.

Fields injured his ankle in Monday's 17-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. After he returned from the COVID-19 list, he had a groin injury that flared up.

The Bears acquired Foles to compete withMitch Trubisky, but he has not played this season. Fields did not practice Thursday or Friday because he was limited in practice Wednesday.

Nagy said the injury hasn't gotten worse, but that the team is trying to gauge where the pain level is, and that it's possible that Fields could be the backup on Sunday. The Bears have only one other quarterback, Ryan Willis, who was signed to the practice squad.

Nagy said that they have to balance what Ryan could do with where they are. He's learning how to do it. It would probably be more of an emergency situation, and we just have to see where he is at percentage-wise, where it doesn't endanger his health, but he's able to help us. We're going to go with Ryan if that's not the best thing to do.

Fields missed two games this season because of cracked ribs. In 12 games this season, he has completed 58.9% of his passes for 1,870 yards, seven touchdown and 10 interceptions. He has fumbled an NFL-high 12 times and his total quarterback rating is the second worst in the league.
