Shorter was taken to the hospital after being carted off the field in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl.

The Shorter family said in a statement that they are happy to report that Justin is doing well and is on his way to a full recovery. He is going to be fine, and we would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. Thanks to everyone at the University of Florida athletic staff and St. Joseph's Hospital, we have been supported and cared for by them. Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a blessed year. Shorter was hit in the back by a UCF defensive back in the fourth quarter and his head snapped backward.

Shorter lay motionless on the turf for several moments as Florida's medical staff rushed to assist him. The silence filled Raymond James Stadium as the Florida and UCF players took a knee.
