Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff 'highly unlikely' for Atlanta Falcons matchup, coach says

Dan Campbell, the Detroit Lions' coach, said that it's "unlikely" that quarterback Jared Goff will be on the field on Sunday in Atlanta.

Campbell said it was highly unlikely with where we are. I would say it's looking doubtful because he didn't clear the protocols this morning.

On Monday, a day after the Lions' upset win over the Arizona Cardinals, Goff tested positive for COVID-19. He said this week that he was feeling fine, but the Lions are expected to start Tim Boyle.

I'm feeling good. It's not very cold. "I'm feeling good," he told Detroit's 97.1 The Ticket on Tuesday. I had some symptoms after the game. I said, "You know what?" Monday morning. I was positive, I might as well make sure this is good to go.

While still trying to understand the NFL's COVID-19 policy, he is taking proper precautions to return as soon as possible, such as getting rest and proper hydration.

He played through the flu during Detroit's win over the Minnesota Vikings.

It is interesting. I had the flu a couple weeks ago and they didn't have a problem with me playing, but I'm not allowed to play with this," he said. I tested positive for the flu and was in the building the next day.

Detroit is playing for pride and Campbell wants the team to finish the season strong to establish a foundation for the future.

He will be making his second start. In Detroit's Week 11 loss at Cleveland, he completed 15 of 23 passes for 77 yards with zero touchdown and two turnovers for a 34.1 passer rating.

"I want to win," he said. I don't care if I throw for 77 yards again. I'm kind of wondering if he actually means that. Yeah, I mean. If I were to be the starter, I would be fighting for my first win and our third win.
