8 great TikTok accounts from 2021 to follow

Maybe you are new to TikTok or have been on the app for a while, and would like to find some new accounts to follow. It is easy to get stuck in a bubble of repetitive content when you see the same creators again and again, because the algorithm does a great job of showing videos that a user might like.

I follow a lot of accounts on TikTok and spend a lot of time there. I have a large list of creators I would recommend following. They range from creators who give advice to a forager to heavy metal singers. These accounts are a good place to start on TikTok. If you have been using it for a while, these accounts will be a good way to keep up with the videos you see.

Oldtimehawkey.

The song is called "Ylang Ylang" and it's called "Fjk"

When I am feeling stressed or emotional, oldtimehawkey pops on my For You page with his friendly slogan, "Well, hello there, buddy!" The creator of the videos is so calm that the screen feels peaceful. The creator and his dog are in the marsh. In most videos, he will cook himself and the viewer up a little something, split a couple of cold pops, and then have us sit down with him as he watches old VHS tapes or plays vintage Nintendo games.

Mercurystardust

Mercury is one of the first creators I followed on TikTok out of sheer desperation after a few phone calls to my apartment's maintenance team for embarrassingly easy fixes. She goes by the name Trans Handy Ma'am, and she gives out repair advice, life advice, and hilarious anecdotes. I keep her videos in my phone in case they ever need repair advice, because her videos have helped me so many times.

Theplantprodigy

Jacob Soule, better known as theplantprodigy on TikTok, is my go-to for advice on how to keep my plants alive. He offers helpful, often sardonic explainers on different plant types and how to take care of them. He debunks a lot of plant hacks and tips, which saves me a lot of time. I have followed him for nearly a year now, but I still have been able to kill many of my house plants.

I assumed the only plants that were usable were in grocery stores. There is an abundance of delicious plants outside my door, and you can find out from a vegan forager on TikTok. All types of weeds, nuts, roots, and more are identified byAlexis. Her videos are very educational and her excited way of sharing stories and telling the viewer how to get the most out of something is infectious. I use her videos as guides for what I can and cannot eat because I am located in the same city as her. I have had great success using her recipes to grow hairy bittercress, purple deadnettles, lilac petals, and dandelions.

The sound is original by Ann Russell She/Her.

Don't let Annrussel03's nonjudgmental home and life advice fool you. She won't put up with nonsense, and she's not afraid to call commentators out for crossing lines. Ann gives great tips on how to care for yourself and your home. I have kept her cleaning advice in the back of my mind and have found it useful when I have a nasty mess to clean up. There are a lot of creators that try to do what Ann does, but no one gives their tips in such a commanding way.

teepasnow

My family has dementia and I don't know anyone who has it. These diseases can make it easy for a person to forget who they are or where they are located, making it easy for them to forget who their loved ones are. I wish I had a source like this when my family members were living with dementia. Teepa Snow is a wonderful teacher, teaching viewers how to interact with people with diseases in a way that still respects them and calms them.

Hippiearab.

original sound - farah.

The handle hippiearab has a gift for witty and engaging stories. She is one of the more recent accounts I have come across, and she was an instant follow for me. Her stories are hilarious, but it is her perfectly timed pauses and witty asides that make me laugh out loud. One of her most successful videos is about a new chair that is both well designed and easily mistaken for a person at night. She can turn a mundane topic into a funny one.

Scenequeenrocks.

I was a Scene kid going to heavy metal shows when I was in high school. I liked the clothes and community that came with these shows. It was a very male-dominated culture, and I only knew of a few hardcore bands that had female vocalists. I found scenequeenrocks. Scene Queen is bringing feminine looks to heavy metal. She is very tongue-in-cheek about taking up space in the heavy metal world. Her music goes hard, has a great message, and ultimately creates some diversity in a space where it is needed. Scene Queen, rock on.
