2021's most memorable rugby union moments: Read and vote for yours

Rugby and controversial video rants... It all happened in 2021.

The British and Irish Lions tour and the Six Nations without supporters were two of the highlights of the year.

There were many memorable moments in the game.

It had exciting rugby, dour rugby, joy, despair, and video rants.

Vote for your favorite moments of the year, too, if you have a read of them.

Scotland is waiting for the rugby game to end.

Scotland hadn't won at Twickenham since 1983.

Scotland fans were not allowed in the stadium after 38 years of waiting.

Despite being behind closed doors, this was a Calcutta Cup classic, with Scotland full value for their 11-6 win over a scruffy England.

Duhan van der Merwe's first-half score proved the difference as debutant centre Cameron Redpath looked to the manner born with a superb performance.

This was a landmark victory for the side that will open the Championship against England at Murrayfield.

Wales' Grand Slam dream is over.

The Six Nations trophy was presented to Wales at their training base.

Wales were 33/1 to win the Grand Slam before the tournament started, but they were four wins from four after four games.

They had ridden their luck, capitalising on red cards for Ireland and Scotland as well as some major decisions going their way against England, but had also played some lovely stuff, with wing Louis Rees-Zammit breaking through on the Test stage.

With 13 minutes left in Paris, Wales led by 10 points and France was down a man.

But deep into added time, Dulin crossed to break Welsh hearts.

Scotland's win in Paris a week later ensured Wales had the consolation of the Six Nations title.

Quins' miracle.

The first game of the new season was a draw between Quins and London Irish.

Quins' run of form took them to fourth in the table and a dramatic extra-time win at Bristol in the semi-finals.

Alex Dombrandt, Marcus Smith, Louis Lynagh and Joe Marler played for Quins in the all-time great Twickenham finals, which they won 40-38 against Exeter.

Quins women won their first premier 15s title in May, capping a miracle month for the club.

The person goes nuclear.

Rassie was banned from South Africa matchdays for a year because of his video rant.

The most memorable episode of the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa happened away from the field.

The first Test was won by the Lions, and after that, Rassie Erasmus recorded a video slamming the officials.

Erasmus was banned for the video's content but also for threatening and intimidating the referee.

The video soured the tour, but it helped South Africa get back into the series with a thumping win in a messy second Test, which left the officials terrified.

A week later, the Springboks won the Test series.

The sevens are happy.

The men's Olympic sevens champion for the second year in a row was Fiji.

The joy of the Tokyo Olympic sevens was counterbalanced by the rancour of the Lions tour.

Team Great Britain made it to the Games despite the programme being discontinued, and the men's and women's teams won gold and bronze, respectively, under the guidance of Welshman Gareth Baber.

Who could forget Ruby's interview? We're at the Olympics. Let's be happy. Let's compete peacefully. Love and peace.

The Red Roses have a winning record.

England was ranked the world's number one.

The Red Roses were knocked out of the Women's Six Nations by France in February, and it was uncertain how they would fare against New Zealand in November.

The Black Ferns had not played in two years, but England were superb, winning 43-12 at Sandy Park before another record victory a week later in Northampton, this time by 56-15.

Following the retirement of Katy Daly-Mclean, the 10 shirt was made by her daughter, ZOE Harrison, while her name was also used by her winning World Rugby Player of the Year, ELLBURN.

Ireland defeated New Zealand.

Ireland has defeated New Zealand three times in the last five years.

Ireland's trilogy of victories over New Zealand in Chicago and Dublin in 2016 and Dublin in 2021, respectively, was arguably the most impressive, as Andy Farrell presided over his most significant win in charge of the national side.

Johnny Sexton showed he can still cut it at the top, while Joey Carbery saw the game out after a long-standing injury issues. Is Ireland able to kick on from here?

England's World Cup revenge was youthful.

Marcus Smith kicked the winning penalty for England.

Eddie Jones said at the start of 2020 that his side wanted to become the greatest of all time.

The wheels came off in the Six Nations in 2021, after England had won matches in a similar fashion through the previous two years.

Jones put faith in the likes of Marcus Smith at fly-half and Freddie Steward at full-back when he dumped some England greats.

Although South Africa fought back in the second half, Smith's late penalty ensured a memorable win in front of an audience.

French flair in Paris.

Romain Ntamack's counter-attack against New Zealand was an example of French flair.

France was back as a global force in 2021, when they defeated the All Blacks.

On the hour mark, fly-half Romain Ntamack launched a long counter- attack which proved decisive.

It was reminiscent of the classic French rugby of Philippe Saint-Andre and Jean-Luc Sadourney, and it featured Romain's father, Emile.

Ntamack started it, but there was no surprise scrum-halfAntoine Dupont was also involved. The men's Player of the Year award was won by Dupont, who was superb all year for club and country.
