Google's Santa Tracker isn't just a holiday treat, it's also made Google better

Every year since 2004, the developers of the search engine have made sure that anyone with internet access can find out where Santa is. The team behind the tracker is giving users more information.

If you type "Where is Santa?" into the search bar, you'll be shown an animated short with penguins and a secret closet. You will see a few suggestions for mini- games or other videos after the short ends. Below the landing page, you'll find the full range of available interactions, many of which helped other innovations come to be.

The Santa tracker was launched in 2004, and has been continuously updated by the team at the internet giant. New coding games, voice assistant integration, and a mask for Santa to protect himself during the Pandemic are some of the big features. The developers behind each update have found that working on the Santa tracker is useful for overall service development, as well as being a fun holiday tradition.

"We figured out how to do so many different things because of Santa Tracker, how to build things, how to launch things, how to make things accessible, how to improve web design, how to optimize tools," said developer Dave Holmes in the post. I like to say that I learned from Santa.

The Santa tracker is the basis for many of the developments shown at I/O.

There are 30 mini- games and animated videos on the Santa's Village page. Santa's route will be shown on a world map as he makes his deliveries in real time on December 24.
