The Clausura season starts on January 7. Las Aguilas finished atop the regular season table but were eliminated in the playoffs by Atlas.

The LA Galaxy parted ways with the former designated player in late November, and DosSantos was a free agent.

I'm in good shape. I am 31 years old. I am not coming to retire here. I have a lot to give to this club and my career. I am hungry. "I want to make the fans happy and win titles with América."

In his two seasons with the MLS All-Star team, DosSantos made 103 appearances for the club and was selected as an MLS All-Star in both of them. He had injuries in the last two years.

The move to Liga MX is the first for Dos Santos, who has previously played in LaLiga and Barcelona. Jonathan's older brother, who is a free agent, played for Club America before being dropped over the summer.

I dreamed of playing in America when I was a kid. DosSantos said that his father played here, and that the DosSantos' already made history in the club. My dad always told us that we had to fulfill our dream to play for America. It's the best team in Mexico. I left the country 20 years ago and have the chance to return and play for the best team.

Two days after fellow El Tri teammate Sebastian Cordova left Las Aguilas for Tigres UANL, DosSantos moved to Club America.
