Republicans are trying to pin the ‘Big Lie’ on Stacey Abrams

They argue that the last campaign speech of the Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia is similar to the one Donald Trump made in regards to the 2020 election results.

Democrats attack Trump and Republicans for believing the big lie. Brian Robinson, a Georgia-based Republican strategist, said that the original Big Lie proponent was the woman who was running for governor of Georgia. She is on so many things that she was ahead of her time.

The theme of Georgia's gubernatorial election in 2022, when election integrity and voting rights will remain major issues, is likely to be shaped by how well their message takes hold.

It will be a political test forAbrams, who made history as the first female Black nominee from a major party to run for governor, and who is eager for a second chance against Kemp.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp speaks at a news conference in August.

At the end of the campaign against Kemp, she staked out a nuanced position, but so far she is not changing it.

After Election Day, the campaign ofAbrams waited for all of the votes to be counted before making a decision. Kemp finished with 50.2 percent of the vote, less than 10,000 votes above the majority runoff threshold that could have forced a second election.

In her final speech 10 days later, she maintained that she was not giving up the race.

Concession means to acknowledge an action is correct. As a woman of conscience and faith, I can't concede. The law currently does not allow any further viable remedy.

In an interview with CNN earlier this month, she reupped her view that the election was rigged.

The game was rigged against the voters of Georgia and Kemp won under the rules.

At the top of my speech on November 16, I said that Brian Kemp is the governor of Georgia and I wished him well at the end of the speech. In the middle, I talked about the fact that we had a system that he managed, that he manipulated, and that the responsibility of leaders is to challenge systems that are not serving the people.

The election was marred by a number of issues according to a lawsuit filed by Fair Fight Action. The suit claims that Georgia's exact-match law disproportionately targeted first-time minority voters. It claims that elections officials were not trained to cancel Absentee Ballots, and that they were not allowed to give access to the ballot to voters who chose to vote in person.

The GOP has an opportunity to use her words to undermine her reputation as a champion of free and fair elections because of her claims.

David Perdue, the former senator now running against Kemp in the GOP gubernatorial primary, said his decision to do so was driven by the fact that Kemp would not be a strong enough candidate to defeat her.

David Perdue was in Augusta, Ga., on December 10, 2020.

Perdue said in his election launch video that he would never give Abrams control of the state's elections. The Republican Governors Association issued a press release highlighting the speech thatAbrams gave in the race.

In March, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger wrote that voters' faith in the system was undermined by the refusal ofAbrams to concede the election. He has claimed that both she and the former president are spreading misinformation about their races through their statements about election fraud and voter suppression.

The similarities between the two are there.

Trump refused to concede the election and made false claims about the results.

Georgia's Bureau of Investigation and the FBI did not find evidence of fraud during the 2020 election. Joe Biden won the election in the state. The lawsuits filed by the former president, his allies and supporters seeking to reverse the results of the election have been dismissed by state courts.

A spokesman for Abrams underscored her stance on the race.

More Georgians' votes were counted after the federal court ruled in favor of the campaign. She worked to change Georgia's voting system for elections moving forward despite acknowledging the result of the election.

The lawsuit was thrown out in April after Kemp signed legislation that gave the legislature more control over elections.

Republicans are happy that they can use the words ofAbrams against her in the election fight.

We've seen a lot of TV and digital ads where candidates are lying. I think the electorate knows that. Ryan Mahoney, a senior adviser to Brian Kemp, said that they know that not everything they hear or see is true. It's a lot harder for the camp to dispute it when it's in the mouth of the person who said it. Since losing the race for Georgia's governor, Democrat StaceyAbrams has spent a lot of time on TV.

Democrats have been quick to call out the GOP's tactics, saying that while election integrity may be front of mind for both Democratic and Republican voters, pushing the belief that Abrams is on an even level with Trump will not get the GOP far in the messaging wars.

I think this will land with Republican voters. Islam is a Georgia-based Democratic strategist and former congressional candidate. It is absolutely egregious for them to equate it to what Trump said.

In her first interview after declaring her candidacy, she explained her position on the election.

On the 16th of November, when I acknowledged that I would not become the governor, I did not challenge the results of the election, unlike some recent folks did. I said that the system was not fair. The leaders challenge the systems and say they can do better. That is what I said.
