Ja Morant says he’s taking social media break after being heckled at home

Ja Morant was told to go back on the injured list during the Memphis Grizzles loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, as live, breathing faceless Twitter profiles took human form. If you missed it, Memphis won 10 of 12 against an easy schedule, including a 73-point victory over Oklahoma City, with Morant out due to an injury.

Morant was upset after the game, and spoke to the media.

Morant said he heard some of his fans tell him to sit back out during the game. I don't understand what they wanted to get out of that. I feel like that makes it worse.

I am just frustrated. When someone says something negative about me, it fuels me. The fans' comments hurt. I will bounce back and be excited for the next game.

He seemed to think in-person heckling was online heckling and entertained a break from social media.

I'm off social media for a while.

I don't know if an alarm went off in his mind when he unlocked his phone and didn't have anything else to do, but the declaration of a social media break was deleted, and it's unclear if he's off.

He hasn't been active since replacing his hiatus announcement with "appreciate da real ones" on Monday, so maybe he is taking a break, but it's not like a pretentious break like someone telling you they're taking a break. I don't want people to think I'm better than them, so I don't want to announce it, but it's more authentic. He could be one of the half of people who follow people and don't actually post anything.

Morant wants to take a break from social media because someone said something bad to him during a game.

He might have expected worse rhetoric online or checked his phone between the end of the game and the postgame news conference, but it has gotten out of hand. Some dumbass Memphis fans brought their hot takes to the game because of Kevin Durant's online lighting up of 13-year-old kids.

It would be nice if the Grizz could get home court advantage in the playoffs, as Morant is having the best season of his career, and they are two games up on the Clippers for the fourth seed in the West. Taking a leave from social media is always a good idea, but society has made it so that shitty people act like internet assholes anywhere, a constant reminder that a place exists where that kind of behavior is normal.

If I deleted my social media from my phone, it would carry over to reality. Happy holidays! Not to you, troll. Ask your parents why they don't love you.
