Huawei enters China’s electric car race in competition with Tesla

The first car with the HarmonyOS will be delivered in February 2022.

Less than a week after Chinese electric car start-up Nio announced its latest competitor toTesla, the Chinese company released details of a vehicle it claims beats the Model Y.

The Chinese tech giant is best known for its telecommunications products and smartphones, but it will not make cars on its own. It has been working with the auto industry on car technology.

Richard Yu, executive director and CEO of the consumer business group at the company, said Thursday at the company's winter product launch event that the Aito M5 will be the first car to run on both electricity and fuel.

The deliveries are expected to start around February 20 after the Chinese New Year, according to Yu.

The Aito M5 has a post-subsidy price of 250000 yuan. That is lower than the Model Y, which starts at 280,752 yuan after subsidies.

Nio revealed on Saturday that it would deliver its electric sedan in September with a starting price of over $500,000 pre-subsidy. The Nio sedan is set for delivery in March.

The Aito M5 has a fuel tank that can be used for extended driving range, which is better than the Model Y.

The Li One, the latest model of Li Auto, has a price of 338,000 yuan, without subsidies, and features a similar fuel-powered range extension feature.

Double-layer sound-proof glass was one of the features Yu described.

Yu said via the company's English translation that you will know whether it is premium or not by the sound. We are able to offer a quality experience.

The Aito M5 is the first model under the Aito brand, which stands for "adding intelligence to auto." It is part of Seres, whose cars have previously incorporated components, but not design.

The parent company of Seres is Sokon, which is based in Chongqing. Seres says on its website that it is able to build and sell in two of the world's largest markets, the U.S. and China.

Many electric car start-ups have been trying to sell the idea that automobiles will come to resemble the role of smartphones in consumers' lives, as the integration of the HarmonyOS with the new Seres car in China is significant. The electric cars come with a device that can be used to adjust car functions, listen to music or watch movies.

The Aito M5 has a car key that can be used as a smart watch.

The company was put on a blacklist by the Trump administration that restricted American companies from selling technology to the Chinese company. The company denied that it poses a threat.

The blacklist cut off the Chinese company from the operating system. The company began working on a new operating system in the year 2016

The company was depicted as a survivor in the opening and closing of the event. The presentation on the car took up the last hour of a 2.5 hour event that announced a foldable smartphone, a new laptop and prescription smart glasses.

He said that many rounds of sanctions have plunged us into the longest winter. Consumers and partners across the globe have supported us despite the difficulties.
