Texas A&M pulled out of the Gator Bowl because of issues within its program, and now Wake Forest will play them.

Rutgers will accept a bid to play the 17th ranked Demon Deacons on December 31 in Jacksonville, Florida, according to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic.

The Rutgers have the highest APR among the teams. The news is expected to be made official on Thursday.

Rutgers was 3-3 in its last six games, but was still a perfect 3-0 in non-conference games. The team's last win was against Indiana. In their last two losses of the season, the Scarlet Knights scored only 16 points.
Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson said on Wednesday that he hoped to find a new opponent by Friday. The players told Clawson they still want to play in the game after a great season. It would be the program's first bowl appearance since 1946.

The captains want to play in the Gator Bowl. That's what they said. We've worked really hard to get to this bowl.

The team is taking extra precautions such as wearing facemasks indoors, social distance and limiting contact to make sure they'll be able to play, and over 90 percent of the team has received a COVID-19 booster shot.
