The metaverse and Web3 are two trends that are set to change the digital world. The richest man in the world is not interested in either. In a recent interview, the CEO of the two companies said he didn't see a compelling use-case for the virtual reality-driven metaverse and derided the concept of Web3 as more marketing than reality.

Musk admitted that he might not be up to speed on the new technologies. He said that he was one of the people who understood the potential of the internet in 1995 and that he was dismissing the internet as a fad.

I don't see someone wearing a screen to their face all day.

Musk focused on a lack of compelling use-cases and a disappointing experience for consumers in his criticism of the metaverse. You can put a TV on your nose. I am not sure if that makes you in the metaverse. I don't see someone wearing a screen to their face all day and not wanting to leave. That seems impossible. He said he was unable to see a compelling metaverse situation.

Some of the virtual worlds that are dependent on virtual reality headsets to access are over-hyped. Critics point out that we have tried all this technology before, with the failed virtual reality boom of the ‘90s and the rise of Second Life in the early 2000s. The current iteration offers improved hardware, a flashy new title, and billions of dollars of backing from giants like Facebook-owned Meta, keen to control what they see as the next big digital platform.

Web3 is an alternative vision for the future of the internet, with the idea that ordinary internet users will be able to profit directly from their content and activity online, rather than having this value captured by a few giant internet companies. Musk didn't talk much about Web3 but he did say that he wasn't a fan of the project. Dorsey thinks that Web3 won't democratize anything, but will shift power from existing incumbents like Facebook to upstart venture capital funds.

In an interview with The Babylon Bee, Musk said that he was not in the camp of global warming, but that negative effects like rising sea levels were not a wise risk to take.

In the beginning of the show, Musk compared The Onion to The Babylon Bee, saying that it had gotten too politically correct. Musk used to be a huge fan of The Onion but changed his mind when they made fun of him. Musk said that The Onion had a woke mind virus that was one of the biggest threats to modern civilization.
