Benjamin Mendy: Man City defender charged with seventh count of rape

Benjamin Mendy has been charged with rape.

Mendy was charged with a further count of rape last week, but this was subject to reporting restrictions.

Mendy appeared at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday for a hearing before his trial next year.

The charge relates to a new person and is said to have taken place in July.

Mendy is accused of raping four women and is also accused of raping five other women.

The charges include three counts of rape, alleged to have happened on October 11, 2020; sexual touching on January 2, 2021; and one count of rape on July 24, 2021.

Mendy is accused of sex crimes against young women with his co-conspirator Louis Matturie.

The France international was arrested on August 26.

After a 40-minute hearing, both men were sent to HMP Altcourse, where their trial was put back to later in the year.
