The former USC quarterback is transferring to Pittsburgh.

The news that USC had hired Lincoln Riley as its next head coach led to Slovis entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

"USC will always be a special place to me, and I will always be a fan of the school," wrote Slovis in an essay for The Players' Tribune. I'm going to start a new chapter now. I will be playing quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh for the next two years.

A former three-star prospect out of Arizona, Slovis was the backup to five-star prospect JT Daniels at USC. Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first game of the season and was replaced by Slovis.

Despite some injuries, Slovis went on to throw for over 3,500 yards and 30 touchdown and lead USC to an 8-4 season. After Daniels transferred to Georgia, USC's starter for the 2020 season was Shawn Slovis, who led the team to a 5-1 record.

Injuries and the rise of a freshman quarterback, who was split time with Slovis at the end of the season, affected his role in USC's firing of Clay Helton. The quarterback had 2,153 passing yards and 11 touchdown.

"I knew that Pitt and this program were the right fit for me to keep developing into the best leader I can be, and I was so excited when Coach Narduzzi called," he said. "I'm ready to win now, and I'm seeing how hungry the players are for next season, that got me pumped." There are a lot of talented players coming back.

The Carolinas are losing a Heisman Trophy finalist to the football team. Jordan Addison will be a top target.

USC has had other quarterbacks end up in Pittsburgh. Max Browne lost the starting job to Sam Darnold and moved to Narduzzi's team.
