Box Office: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Nabs $37M Monday For $680M Global Cume

Tom Holland and Zendaya are in Spider-Man No Way Home.

Both Sony and Marvel.

Spider-Man: No Way Home earned $37.1 million on Monday, down 42% from its Sunday gross. The four-day domestic gross was $297.2 million, following a $260 million opening weekend. It was the second-biggest domestic four-day gross ever, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made almost $300 million after a $247 million Fri-Sun/$40 million Mon launch.

The Monday gross is the third-best behind Black Panther and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It will be the first film to cross $300 million domestically since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker two years ago. How long it plays like Star Wars Episode VII in terms of raw grosses and day-to-day holds is now a question.

If it slows down a bit, and ends up with a final gross closer to the other movies, no one will mourn. Christmas Eve is usually a lower-grossing day compared to Christmas Day, so that may skew the comparisons over its second weekend.

The Tom Holland/Zendaya superhero sequel earned another $41.2 million overseas for a $383.4 million foreign box office. It is the third-biggest overseas grosser of 2020 and 2021. The $680 million global gross puts it behind F&F9 and James Bond 25.

Spider-Man 3 version 2.0 should be past the overseas box office of F9 by Thursday or Friday, but may need the second weekend to pass the overseas box office of the James Bond movie. The movie should be past both films by tomorrow.

Sing 2, Matrix Resurrections and The King's Man will all be in theaters tomorrow. It will also face off with A Journal For Jordan and Licorice Pizza on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Christmas season slate looks like it will be filled with something for everyone, as those in the business hope that audiences will choose more than just the four-quadrant fantasy and the kid-friendly toon.

I am curious to see how No Way Home performs this weekend, as well as how many non-Spider-Man movies perform at least as well as Wonder Woman 1984 did last Christmas.
