Legion of Super-Heroes Could Come to HBO Max, Thanks to Brian Michael Bendis

A busy man is Brian Michael Bendis. He is currently working on the final issues of the Justice League main series, he is also writing the Justice League/League of Super-Heroes crossover and Naomi, and he is also working on an adult animated series. The Legion of Super-Heroes TV series is a spinoff of the Cover pilot, and it was well-received by the audience.

The writer made the announcement in a lengthy post on his substack newsletter, Jinxworld.

I was asked if there were any DC properties that would make an interesting show, and I thought it would be interesting. I might have yelled the word LEGION louder than you wanted in a business meeting. The headline today is... I have been put to work on a show about superheros.

At the moment it is being developed as an adult animated show. Can you tell me how I'm reacting to this? I was sent to the next phase last week and I can tell you that it will be an adaptation of the Legion of Super-Heroes. I think Legion of Super-Heroes is one of the greatest franchises in the history of comics, and I am as honored to be a part of it as I was Spider-Man.

The Legion of Super-Heroes comic series brought Jon Kent into the 31st century to join the team. The Legion of Super-Heroes was put against General Zod and the Gold Lantern, and teased a "great darkness" for future issues. It will be interesting to see how the writer brings this series, which draws heavily from his previous run on Superman, and will eventually incorporate that work on Justice League, into a show that people who haven't been reading his work can enjoy.

We won't be seeing Legion of Super-Heroes until at least 2023, assuming the show is picked up by HBO beyond the pilot order. The streaming service seems to be interested in DC Comics content since it keeps renewing and there are movies like Batgirl on the way.

Wondering where our feed went? The new one can be picked up here.
