Celtic ask for winter break to be brought forward to avoid restrictions

Celtic requested that the winter break be moved forward to avoid the festive fixture being impacted by the cap.

There is a rise in Covid-19 Omicron cases and the first minister has announced that outdoor sporting events can have a maximum of 500 people attend for three weeks.

In that period, Celtic host Rangers and Hibernian.

The fans were told that they are "exploring all options".

The winter break for the Scottish top flight is due to start on 4 January with Hibs the first team back in Scottish Cup action on 20 January.

The health and safety of all must always be Celtic's priority, and the club's fixture on Wednesday with St Mirren is now in doubt with the club requesting a postponement.

Celtic can confirm that it has requested that the SPFL bring forward the winter break and rearrange the fixture list in light of today's announcement.

The game owes it to supporters to explore all opportunities so that they can attend matches and support the game they love.

The first minister confirmed that there will be limits on the number of people.

More to come.
