Today I learned double-pressing Ctrl can become a powerful Windows 11 shortcut for finding your mouse

Have you ever lost your mouse? It is not hard to do when you are sitting in front of multiple monitors or even a monstrous TV, but Microsoft has an amazing keyboard shortcut that can surface your cursor, and I recently found it by accident.

I was on my keyboard when my screens went off, but only for a small light. The Find My Mouse feature in Microsoft's PowerToys was triggered by my double-pressed Ctrl.

Here is what it looks like up close.

Here is a rough idea of what my triple-monitor rig would look like.

I should have turned off the video on my phone.

The spotlight instantly draws my attention to where I am, and the dimming effect makes it clear where it isn't. I am finding that it is coming in handy almost every day, as someone who used to wildly wag my mouse around to find it across three screens.

Why isn't this built into Windows 11? If you want to use PowerToys, you will have to download and install it. I have used its window manager to snap windows into perfectly sized positions across my screens for over a year now.

I accidentally discovered that the Find My Mouse feature doesn't require any setup. If PowerToys is up and running, double-tapping Ctrl should do it. There are a few ways to modify the Microsoft support page.
