Airbnb tightens ‘anti-party’ rules for rentals as New Year’s Eve approaches

New Year's Eve parties will now be subject to tighter policy restrictions on the platform, with some three-night rentals for guests without a history of positive reviews added to the list.

In the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK, France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand, guests without a history of positive reviews on the platform can't make one-night, two-night, and now three-night reservations. The company said it would be focusing on local reservations.

The company said that guests who have positive reviews from their hosts will not be subject to the restrictions.

A fatal shooting at a large Halloween party in California led to a ban on party houses on the platform. Local news reports said there were more than 100 people in the house at the time of the shooting. In August 2020, the company said it was adding restrictions to adhere to local health departments social distancing requirements for large in-person gatherings, imposing an Occupancy cap of 16 people. If hosts or guests try to evade the rules, they could be subject to a ban from the platform or even legal action.
