HomePod Mini Helps Apple Nearly Double Its Market Share of Smart Speakers and Screens

Apple has doubled its market share in this segment thanks to the HomePod mini, but Amazon still leads the market for smart speakers and smart screens with devices like the Echo Show.

Apple shipped 4 million smart speakers in the third quarter of 2021, taking a 10.2% share of the combined smart speaker and smart screen market, according to Strategy Analytics. The research firm said that the top-selling device in the segment was the Nest Mini from Google.

Apple's market share for smart speakers and screens was estimated to be 5.9% in the year-ago quarter.

Apple doesn't compete in the smart screen market, so it's at a disadvantage in this report. Mark Gurman believes that Apple should launch a larger iPad as a home hub to compete with devices like the Echo Show 15. It's not clear if Apple will ever release a device with larger display sizes, but Gurman reported earlier this year that Apple was looking at larger iPad displays.

The mini HomePod speaker has not been updated since it was launched in October 2020. Apple's increased market share appears to have made the current HomePod mini a success.
