Trump sues NY Attorney General Letitia James to block company probe

Donald Trump is in Des Moines, Iowa, for a rally on October 9, 2021.

Donald Trump filed a federal lawsuit Monday to stop New York state from investigating his business.

James is looking into the Trump Organization's practices of misstating the value of real estate assets in order to get favorable loan and insurance rates and lower its tax obligations.

A criminal investigation is being conducted by the office of the Manhattan District Attorney.

Trump, who is a Republican, claims that both James and Vance are investigating him for political reasons, and has called the probes a witch hunt.

The New York Times reported that the suit was filed by Trump.

James is said to have a political animus and a desire to intimidate and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.

The suit states that Trump, his family and his business are victims of a bitter crusade by James, who has bombarded them with unwarranted subpoenas.

The complaint contains multiple pages devoted to James' past criticisms of the Trump administration.

Trump's lawyer said that Letitia James targets President Trump with a callous disregard for the ethical and moral obligations she swore to abide by when she became Attorney General.

Habba said that she has ruined the sanctity of her office by starting this partisan investigation. We intend to file a lawsuit to stop her from punishing her political opponent by violating the constitution.

A spokesman for James didn't respond to the request for comment.
