Rafael Nadal tests positive for COVID-19 after Abu Dhabi comeback tennis event

After making his comeback from injury in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition event in Abu Dhabi last week, Nadal tested positive for Covid-19, he said on Monday.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion said he was having some unpleasant moments but was hoping to feel better soon and would keep people informed about his plans.

After playing in the Abu Dhabi tournament, I have tested positive for carbon dioxide in the test I took when I arrived in Spain, Nadal wrote.

The 35-year-old said he had tested negative at all times when he was in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi.

The Spaniard's comeback from injury at the exhibition event ended in two close defeats to Andy Murray and Denis Shapovalov.

I am having some unpleasant moments, but I hope that I will improve over time. He wrote that he had reported the result to those who had been in contact with him.

I have to have total flexibility with my calendar and I will analyse my options depending on my evolution. I will keep you informed of my decisions.

Nadal was out for four months with a foot injury. He was knocked out in the semifinals at the French Open and had to withdraw from the Olympics, Wimbledon and the US Open.

He said he couldn't guarantee he'd make the trip for the Australian Open.
