Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire, is back on Earth after launching a money-giving campaign from the International Space Station on Sunday.
Maezawa, who founded the online retailer Zozo, announced in December that he would be giving away money while on a trip to space. He and his assistant Yozo Hirano and Alexander Misurkin returned to Earth on Monday after they blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
He launched the contest on Sunday. Everyone who participates in the lottery will receive money through the app that can be used at participating shops or donated to charity. Local media reported that the amount distributed ranged from 500 to 8 million Japanese dollars.
Arigato Bank did not respond to the question of how much Maezawa has allocated for the campaign.

During his time on the International Space Station (ISS), Maezawa uploaded a lot of videos on his YouTube account showing off how to use a toilet and how to brush teeth in zero gravity.
The SoftBank Group founder and CEO Masayoshi Son was called by him last week.
Maezawa's call to my phone was connected. It's great that he's doing well. According to a translation, Son wrote. It's wonderful when dreams come true.
That's also on top of delivering Japanese food to astronauts stationed at the International Space Station, minting an NFT, reviewing a Manga titled Space Brothers, and launching a pre-order for clothes inspired by his trip.
Yusaku Maezawa (MZ) is on December 16, 2021.
In an interview with the Associated Press, the Japanese billionaire said that reports of him spending over $80 million were accurate.
The ultra-rich should use their wealth to help people on Earth instead of going to space, Maezawa said. Maezawa said that those who criticize are people who have never been to space.
He is going to visit the moon with Musk.
The 46-year-old has given away money before. In 2020, he said he would give $9 million of his $2 billion fortune to his followers.
