Anthony Davis heard something pop when Jaden McDaniels crashed into his knee. He said it wasn't just because of pain that the Lakers star collapsed in the tunnel. It was also mental anguish.

Davis spoke to reporters for the first time since he injured his knee, saying it was difficult to walk. I had to take a break. The first thing I thought of when I heard something pop was a major injury. I was just like everywhere. Thank God that it wasn't that.

Davis had an MRI in Chicago that showed a sprain. He will be out of action for four weeks while he rehabilitates his knee.

Davis said he has a good outlook despite the setbacks. He missed 36 of the Lakers' 72 regular-season games last year because of injuries. He sees a different situation.

I'm fine. Davis said he was in a good space. Last year was more of a me thing. This year was freakish. I think that knowing that nothing I could have done to avoid it keeps me in a good place. The locker room is a good place to be. People around me are good. My wife and I had a great conversation about it and she's the one who keeps me in a good place.

The Lakers are in the sixth spot in the Western Conference and could really use Davis.

The eight-time All-Star believes that L.A. is doing well.

When we're healthy, we're a pretty good team. We started playing well, then all the evidence happened and then more injuries. We're not in a terrible spot, but it's not where we want to be.

We're still in a good spot, for a team who feels like they can, could have done more, or won more games, we should have won, and we're still in a good spot. We hope that we can stay afloat and still pursue our goal, which is to win a championship.

The Bulls were without six players, who are in the health and safety protocols. David Fizdale took the reins after Frank Vogel tested into the protocols.

However, there was a hint of a silver lining, withTrevor Ariza making his season debut after undergoing ankle surgery in the preseason. After scoring a team-high 19 points in Minnesota, Isaiah Thomas earned a spot in the starting lineup.

Davis is bringing a positive mindset to the spot the Lakers are in.

"It's going to take a team to beat Chicago tonight, and everyone is going to have to be on the same page," Davis said. "I think we have a lot of guys who can do that, a lot of leadership who can put us in the right position on the floor and on the bench from the coaching side to make sure we're successful."
