'Hades' is the first video game to win a Hugo Award

There is no permanent award for games.

The games are called Supergiant Games.

A video game has won a Hugo Award for the first time. The Last of Us: Part II and Animal Crossing were both nominated for the Best Video Game award, but it was Supergiant Games' Hades that won. Greg Kasavin gave a virtual acceptance speech, saying he was grateful for the work in the game industry.

The Hugo Awards revealed plans for a game category in November of 2020 and Hades has been available since September 2020. It came to the consoles in August. The title has received a warm reception through its fast-paced roguelike style, solid narrative element and mechanics that reward repeat play.

It's not a big deal whether or not other games receive awards. There are no plans for a permanent games category. Over the years, the Hugo Awards have considered digital content like streaming video. It won't be a surprise if games eventually have a long-term spot, because of the increasing sophistication of fantasy and sci-fi game storylines.

I would have liked to attend theHugoAwards in person. I was unable to make an acceptance speech on behalf of the team, but I did have a few words here. I'm thankful that the awards are recognizing work that is less work than we did.
