Chile elects 35-year-old leftist Gabriel Boric to the presidency, making him one of the world's youngest leaders

Gabriel Boric is the youngest person to be elected president in the country's history.

The New York Time reported that Boric, a lawmaker and former student protest leader, included promises of radical reforms on inequality into his platform, including raising taxes on the rich, expanding the country's social safety net, and drafting a new Constitution.

Boric said during a video call with Piera that he would be the president of all of the country.

His opponent, a right-wing candidate, conceded 90 minutes after the polls closed. Both Boric and Kast are members of political parties that have never been represented in the government.

Boric is the president-elect of Chile and deserves all our respect and constructive collaboration, said Kast.
