New York Giants' Sterling Shepard suffers season-ending torn Achilles

Shepard, a wide receiver for the Giants, tore his left Achilles in Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

Shepard was in pain as he fell to the ground without contact while running a route with under two minutes left in the Giants' nightmare season. Shepard was carted off after fellow players called for the medical staff.

Saquon said that it was tough for his close friend's injury to be so bad. He just makes this team better. He is a leader of this team. The energy he brings to the field and the off field is unbelievable. It's sad to see a guy go down. I know Shep is a fighter. I know he's going to attack the rehabilitation. The comeback is going to be something special, just a little setback.

The veteran receiver had two catches. He will finish the season with 36 catches for 366 yards and a touchdown in seven games.

Shepard and the Giants' skill position players have been injured. Shepard missed time because of injuries. Several players have missed at least two games this season.

Shepard was listed as questionable with a calf injury.

His Giants future could be in jeopardy. Shepard is due $8.5 million next season.

Lorenzo Carter, who missed all of last season with a torn Achilles, voiced confidence in Shepard's ability to recover.

Carter said it was a long process. I know my guy has it. He's going to come back stronger than ever.
