Ifan Phillips: Ospreys hooker reveals he had leg amputation following road traffic collision

The 2016 Grand Slam-winning squad included a former Wales Under-20s hooker.

IfanPhillips had a leg amputation after a road traffic collision involving two motorcycles.

"It was not possible to save my leg", wrotePhillips on social media.

The 25-year-old is hoping to get a leg that is artificial.

Kevin's son,Phillips, trained with the Wales squad last summer after playing 40 games for the Ospreys.

A crowdfunder page set up to helpPhillips in his rehabilitation has raised more than $60,000.

Following his social media post, the Ospreys have reiterated their support for him.

Toby Booth and scrum-half Rhys Webb previously said the region would do all it could to supportPhillips.

"Now that I'm home from the hospital, I'd like to say a few words," he wrote.

I would like to thank everyone for their support over the last few days. It means a lot to me and my family.

The generosity of the public and the rugby community has been overwhelming and I cannot thank you guys enough for your kind donations.

"My thanks go to all the people who helped at the scene of the accident, to the emergency services, and to the staff at Morriston Hospital." You have all been great.

I was rushed to the hospital on the 5th of December because of a motorbike accident.

It was not possible to save my leg after surgery. I had to have an amputation.

Your kind donations will go towards my rehabilitation and hopefully I can experience new opportunities with a new leg.

Those who know me well will know that I am active and will continue to be so.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, all your donations are greatly appreciated.

Ifan is at home.
