I don't think this will become a reality, but it seems that it is under consideration.
A new aviation agreement has been signed by the United States of America and the Republic of Columbia.
The Air Service Negotiation event took place in the country. A new agreement with the United Arab Emirates was one of the most important things to come from this.
One of the most important results for the country was the opening of new passenger services, connecting the country via Miami.
After a year, the agreement states that the carriers from the United Arab Emirates would be allowed to fly multiple times a day to the South American country from Miami. The passenger service in the market would be similar to the cargo route that the airline already operates.
Could we see service between the United Arab Emirates and the country of Colombia?
A Miami to Bogota route on a Gulf carrier is possible.
The way that this is being reported in the media is overstating the certainty of this happening. It seems that both Emirates and Etihad are going to launch this route. That is not the case.
The agreement gives the airlines the ability to launch this service, but they haven't publicly expressed any interest in doing so.
I think it would be better for the country if it launched a route to Miami on Emirates rather than Etihad.
Is there a world in which we could see a Miami to Bogota tag flight added by the airline?
The time it takes for the airline to operate a single flight from Miami to Bogota is almost enough for a slight schedule adjustment.
The cargo capacity of a passenger version of the 777 could make this route breakeven, as it has been operated by Emirates for quite a while.
Several fifth freedom flights to the Americas, including Athens to Newark, Milan to New York, and Barcelona to Mexico City, are operated by Emirates.
It is very early on a Sunday morning and I might not be processing this correctly, but I believe that the fifth freedom rights between Miami and Bogota could be used by passengers to book a flight with Emirates.
I could see this route working out very well between the passenger and cargo demand, if the fifth freedom flights were to be added by Emirates. It seems more difficult if the airline couldn't carry passengers on a fifth freedom basis. If the cargo demand is there, the route could be used for that purpose, with passengers being the icing on the cake.
This still doesn't seem like the most efficient way to travel between the two countries.
It would take a detour through Miami to get to the 8,478 miles between Bogota and Dubai.
If the goal is to be as efficient as possible, it would make sense for Avianca and Emirates to establish a codeshare agreement, where they would carry passengers from Madrid to Dubai.
I would love to be able to fly from Miami to Bogota in first class.
How fun would it be between Miami and Bogota?
The bottom line.
A new agreement between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Columbia allows for new service to be launched. That doesn't mean either airline will launch the route.
I think the most likely scenario would be that the airline adds a tag flight from Miami to Bogota as part of its existing service. It seems like that route could perform well given the cargo demand between Miami and Bogota.
Do you think we could see a Miami to Bogota route?
