Leeds defend like they are on the playground and are in trouble if it continues, says Graeme Souness

During the home defeat against the Gunners, Souness labelled the defending as "playground" football and described them as an "absolute shambles".

Gabriel Martinelli scored twice in the first half as the Gunners won their third straight game in the league.

The only top-flight game of the day was the only one in the Championship because of the coronaviruses that decimated the rest of the fixture list.

Three straight defeats in the premier league has left him with 14 goals conceded. In the opening 45 minutes of the match, the team with the most shots on target was the team with the most points.

There are highlights from the win at Leeds.

Speaking during the interval, Souness told Sky Sports that if they continue to be asked to play like this, they are in trouble.

I don't know how you can expect that from your players. For Martinelli's second, Drameh is running into Raphinha's space and he doesn't sense the danger. I don't want to be mean to him, but he must see Martinelli.

The ball wasn't in total possession of the team. They play in the playground. They are an absolute mess.

There were 11 first-team players missing.

Souness said that the game would never be easier for the visitors. They could have scored six or seven goals in the first half. It will take some understanding of the defensive decisions made by Leeds. They took their foot off the pedal in the second half and won easily.

This is what I am told about the game tonight. I'm not sure if it's just about young players doing their jobs tonight, or if it's all about their attempt to play. They're not good enough to beat a better football team 4-3.

I would be worried about the type of football they are playing if I were a supporter of them. At the beginning of the season, United was 6-1 and they were beaten this week. The brand of football that Leeds plays means they can be turned over by the better teams.

The first half of the match at Elland Road was marked by alleged racist abuse aimed at the bench from the fans of both teams.

What is more important to you, Mr. Bielsa or me? Is the style of football you want to play admirable or is it winning football matches?

I think I know the answer. The more important thing to him is how they play. Maybe that's the answer if the fans are behind him at the end.

I worry that you're asking players who aren't good enough to play like Barcelona from a decade ago. A lot of managers are guilty of that.

The U9s team is similar to the SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA SALVAGEDATA

The players from Elland Road look sad as they watch the game.

It was clear Robin Koch was asked to do a man-to-man marking job on Lacazette, but it only resulted in leaving space for Martin Odegaard to exploit in the build up to the second goal.

Gary said that he wasn't having any discussion about how Bielsa plays the game, but he was against Lacazette.

If that was a great player up front, who could turn and run at you, you could follow him and mark him.

"But not Lacazette." He's pulling the centre-backs of the other teams all over the place and leaving gaps for the others to fill, but they can't fill them.

They are a mess. It was really good for the team and they exploited it. I don't see how Koch can chase Lacazette all over the pitch and leave so much for the rest of the defenders to do.

It's like an U9s team defending. Five or six of them are trying to block the same ball.

The core of the team has injuries.

In the first two games of the season, Leeds have conceded 11 goals.

At the half-time break, the Gunners were threatening to run amok against a patched-up line-up and could have led by more than three goals.

After Martinelli's double put the Gunners 2-0 up in the first half, it looked like they were on their way to a big win.

After the break, the side improved and reduced the deficit through Raphinha's penalty, but Emile Smith Rowe's late goal ended any hopes of a fightback.

The teams are five points above each other, but 18th-ranked Burnley have three games in hand.

Illan Meslier fell to the ground after he conceded.

Beckford told Sky Sports that there have been injuries to key players in the team. It's pretty much the regular starting XI that has those injuries through the core.

They were all over the place from a defensive point of view and it was extremely disappointing.

It was too easy for Lacazette to lose his man. Robin Koch was following him all over the place, which left gaping holes in the middle of the defence. The wingers exploited the other team.

The players are responding to adversity.

Everyone at the club works together, so no one is to blame for the poor first-half performance.

The 16 points from their 18 games this season is the joint-fewest they have ever earned at this stage of a league campaign in their history.

When asked if he is currently in the midst of his biggest test as a manager, he said "You have to have a tolerance to the frustration."

You need to be very convinced in order to absorb these types of moments. There are examples that have value.

Robin Koch was willing to return today after four months out, but this participation wasn't in an ideal state. He chose to play. The game did not overcome him. Stuart Dallas received a lot of knocks, but he finished the game like Raphinha.

During the first half, he was asked to explain the problems his side caused.

Stuart Dallas had an injury on Sunday.

If we lose the ball before we get to the opponent's half or if we lose it close to where we recover it, we increase the offensive possibilities of the opponent. If we get into the opponents' half, we allowed actions that could make us unbalanced.

In the first half, we didn't resolve this and it resulted in more opportunities for the team to score. In the second half, we improved our recovery of the ball, but we never got them to make mistakes.

In the first half, we made a lot of effort so that their forwards didn't receive the ball easily, and their forwards didn't receive chances that were too clear-cut. The possibilities were increased when we lost the ball in the middle of the pitch.

There was no question that the game would go on. There aren't rules to stop a game due to injuries or suspensions, but we had a number of injuries which were added to by the illness of Diego Llorente.

Martinelli has come a long way.

Mikel Arteta was happy with how his players performed against Leeds, but refused to be drawn on whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be back in the side.

Arteta named the same starting XI in four consecutive games for the first time in over a year, after three straight wins, and there is greater consistency to the team.

Arteta said it was a great performance. They are the ones who have to execute the game plan against a team that is not comfortable. We've had three physical games in a week. I'm very happy.

We had intentions. The players understood the game well. In the first half, we were really good. We're really pleased with the three wins.

Arteta praised Martinelli, who was given a break after his exertions at the Tokyo Olympics with Brazil.

Arteta said that they know when to use the player based on whether he's in the right frame of mind after scoring four goals in his last six games.

He's come a long way. He had to put away some of the aspects that he had to develop like the chances he had today. He's going in the right direction.
