Meyer is sorry that he won't be able to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars become a great franchise.
Meyer told the network that he was "heartbroken" over the way his tenure with the team ended.
Meyer apologized to Jacksonville. I love Jacksonville. It was one of the reasons I took the job. I still think Khan is a great owner. It's heartbreaking. He agreed to build a new facility that would allow me to walk into the stadium and see it in person. I know how bad the people of Jacksonville are.
I'm very sad that we weren't able to do that. I still think it will be done. It's a good place.
Meyer was fired early Thursday morning after going 2-11 and committing a string of embarrassing gaffes, including two videos of him behaving in a way that was inappropriate with a woman who wasn't his wife, reports of him berating his assistant coaches, and accusations of making racist remarks.
Josh Lambo accused Meyer of kicking him during warm-ups before an August practice, an allegation that Meyer denied.
According to sources, the Jaguars will not pay Meyer the remaining four years of his contract because he was fired with cause. A spokesman for Khan released a statement to The Associated Press that said Khan made the decision to fire Meyer after last Sunday's 20-0 loss at Tennessee.
Meyer was allowed to stay in the building for the next three days and meet with the media twice. Meyer left the facility shortly after the news of Lambo's allegations broke on Wednesday afternoon and did not return, and the Jaguars released a statement from Khan announcing the firing at 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
Meyer's last game was the first blanking in franchise history since Week 5 of the 2009 season. In the four games this season in which they had 200 or fewer yards, the Jags have managed 192 yards of total offense. Video of Meyer and Mike Vrabel shaking hands after a game was not a good look for Meyer. Meyer wouldn't look at Vrabel.
Meyer said that losing hurts. I can't tell you anything else. It eats away at your soul.
Two days before the game, Meyer said he was still confident in his ability to win at the NFL level, but that it was a different process than he thought.
I do. Meyer said most definitely. The experience of winning games has not materialized as I expected. I knew this was a build. I think we have enough players that can win games. I still believe that. I think we can do better than we are doing, so I get so disappointed with our coaching staff or myself. Really disappointed.
He is sorry it didn't work out.
