After being fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars early Thursday morning, former head coach Urban Meyer broke his silence and apologized to the team for the amount of negative things they had to endure.

Meyer apologized to Jacksonville in an exclusive interview with Ian Rapoport. I love Jacksonville. It was one of the reasons I took the job. I think he's a great owner. It's sad.

Meyer was fired after his first season in Jacksonville, where the team was 2-11 and he had four years left on his contract. "I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone," said Khan.

Meyer's tenure was sullied by his decision not to fly back to Jacksonville after the team's Week 4 loss to Cincinnati. A woman who is not Meyer's wife is dancing near his lap in a bar.

The tension between Meyer and the players had "boiled over", according to Tom Pelissero. Meyer angrily left the team facility after an argument with Marvin Jones Jr. Meyer referred to his assistant coaches aslosers during a staff meeting.

Josh Lambo, a former kicker for the Jags, told Rick Stroud of the altercation he had with Meyer during a preseason practice.

Meyer told Rapoport that the argument with Jones wasn't accurate. He denied calling his assistantslosers and said the incident with Lambo didn't happen.

It was like, "Wait a minute, where is this coming from?" Meyer said something. I've made a few mistakes, but they weren't right.

Darrell Bevell will be the interim head coach. Lawrence told reporters this week that the outside noise surrounding Meyer was affecting the team.

Lawrence said that it brings some clarity and direction to the situation. We want to finish the season strong. It's been hard with everything going on.

The Houston Texans are 2-11 and will be facing the Jags on Sunday.
