Sports Personality 2021: Simone Biles honoured with Lifetime Achievement award

Simone Biles is the Lifetime Achievement award winner.

The Lifetime Achievement award was given to Simone Biles.

One of the greatest gymnasts of all time is Simone Biles, who has won four Olympic gold medals and 19 World Championship titles.

She spoke out about being abused by Larry Nassar, who is now serving a life sentence in jail.

She was praised for talking about her mental health struggles.

The Lifetime Achievement award was an "unbelievable honor", said gymnast Simone Biles.

She said she can't believe the names that have been honoured before her.

She withdrew from five of her six finals at the Tokyo Olympics because she had to focus on her mental health.

She said she had a mental block that made her lose her orientation in the air.

She said she should have quit before Tokyo.

The year that she was expecting was not the year she accepted her award for. I had to take a break from competition this summer to recover from an injury.

It was the hardest decision of my life, but I chose to speak out to show that mental health struggles are not to be ashamed of.

I was expecting some criticism, but it wasn't the case. It fills my heart to think of the support and encouragement I received.

I want to thank my team-mates, my friends, and my family for giving me so much love and strength.

She said she was grateful to everyone in the UK who sent her messages.

Hearing how I may have helped someone feel a little better is what I treasure the most.

I will continue to fight for what I believe in, for sport to be a safer place for young people to grow and flourish, and for me to speak up about mental health.

An exceptional individual.

Simone Biles received a Lifetime Achievement award.

When she was a child, Biles was in and out of foster care before she was adopted by her maternal grandfather and his second wife.

She started her elite career eight years later after she was introduced to gymnastics at the age of six on a field trip.

She won her first two world titles in two years and added eight more by the end of 2015.

She won all four of her Olympic titles at Rio 2016 and was a bronze medal winner.

She won nine more world titles in the next two years and was expected to win more golds at Tokyo 2020 but the Covid-19 epidemic delayed that.

She won team silver and individual beam bronze despite withdrawing from five of her six finals.

Since returning from the Olympics, Simone Biles has been open about having therapy and is touring America with other members of the United States' gymnastics team, but has not yet decided if she will return to competition.

Ron said that they are proud of her in the way she has handled herself. I'm amazed by how she carries herself.

Simone is an exceptional person. I don't know where she got her talent.

I tell people that it's a God-given talent and that they should not waste it, because we didn't give it to them.

It's still mind blowing that this is coming from our daughter.

Simone is an amazing young lady, said her mother, Nellie. When we first met Simone, I knew that she was still the same person.

Simone wasn't in agreement with everything I said. Simone had a mind of her own, she advocated for herself, and she always spoke for her sister.

This is the person I know. This is someone who will speak out when needed, this is someone who is now finding her voice, and making that stronger and in thing she believes in.

"This is someone who has gone through a lot of struggles, like every one of us, and this is someone who is not ashamed to discuss the struggles that she has been through in life."

She has become an athlete that many people can relate to, and also a human that many people can relate to, because she has made society believe in her and understand her from both sides.

This is someone who is only 24 years old, and I think that says a lot about Simone's strength.
