Many phone plan users were secretly signed up for branded programs that shared their browsing and location data with the cellular provider. There is a way out of it.
Users discovered their privacy settings had been changed without their knowledge. The Customer Experience Plus program had become a rewards program and it seemed to affect customers who were previously part of it. More users were automatically opted into the Customer Experience program.
Track browsing history, location data, and usage patterns to help the company "personalize our communications with you, give you more relevant product and service recommendations, and develop plans, services, and offers that are more appealing to you."
The telecommunications company started reaching out to users that were not aware they were part of the programs. The texts and emails gave more information about the programs.

The onus is on you to make the necessary changes since it's an opt-out situation. You can check to see if you're in one of the programs, and take steps to turn it off.
