Showalter signed a three-year contract, according to Jon Heyman.
Showalter is one of the best people to hire as a manager for a franchise.
Showalter has managed five different teams in his career. The Texas Rangers are the only organization that didn't make the playoffs.
The New York Yankees became a dynasty under Joe Torre after Showalter oversaw their development. He was the leader of the Arizona D-backs in their second year of existence and they won 100 games and the NL West title.
Showalter's most impressive feat was leading the Baltimore Orioles resurgence. They made the playoffs three times in a five-year period from 2012 to 2016 thanks to his help.
The Orioles hadn't made the playoffs since 1997 prior to Showalter's hiring.
The Mets had a disappointing 77-85 record in 2021, and the manager's option was declined.
Terry Collins was the fourth Mets manager. Mickey Callaway was fired at the end of the year.
Carlos Beltran was hired to replace Callaway. Major League Baseball released a report about the Houston Astros' cheating scandal in the year when Carlos Beltran was on the roster.
The only player named in the report was the Astros' Carlos Beltran. He resigned his position with the Mets on January 16, 2020 before managing a game.
The nine-time All-Star was replaced by a new hire. He finished with a total of 103-119 in two seasons.
Expectations for the Mets in 2021 were off the charts. They acquired Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland to improve a core that already included Pete Alonso, Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil.
Lindor had a terrible start to the season, with a.698 OPS in the first half. DeGrom was on track to have a historic season, with a.607 career average and 103 strikeouts in 64 starts, but a forearm injury kept him out of the season.
The Mets had many problems that plagued them during their 77-85 record. They haven't made the playoffs for the sixth year in a row and have only had one winning season in the last two years.
Lindor and other players made a gesture to mock Mets fans who booed them during a difficult stretch in August.
When the team doesn't have success, fans will get booed, so it's important to let them know that, according to the player.
Lindor and Baez apologized to Mets fans.
Mets fans have a new sense of hope. Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar, and Max Scherzer were all brought in as free agents.
A new season will allow the Mets to compete for a playoff spot in the National League. Showalter will lead the organization's turn around on the field.
The Mets have a lot of talent, so they could be a sleeping giant.
