Urban Meyer is a bad dude and a bad football coach according to Orlovsky.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to set the record straight about owner Shad Khan's firing of Urban Meyer.

A spokesman for Khan told The Associated Press that the decision to move on from Meyer was made after Jacksonville's 20-0 loss at Tennessee on Sunday. Khan had been considering a decision for weeks after he and Meyer had a conversation in the locker room after the game.

Jim Woodcock said it was determined to wait until the conclusion of previously scheduled appointments to make the announcement. The appointments included an employee staff luncheon and meeting with Jacksonville media, both to recognize the 10th anniversary of the purchase of the Jaguars, on Monday, as well as NFL meetings in Dallas on December 14 and 15.

The coach was fired by the Jags early Thursday after Josh Lambo accused him of kicking him during a practice. It made sense to connect that report to Khan's announcement. The Jaguars say that it was more than coincidental.

The announcement was made at 13:05 a.m. Woodcock said that on Thursday, December 16, to provide coaches and staff alike a fresh start after reporting to the stadium that morning. The dismissal was not triggered by a single newspaper report late Wednesday afternoon related to a claim made by a former player.

The decision was reached after a thorough analysis of Urban's tenure with the team.

The 11-month tenure of Meyer was filled with mistakes and missteps, none more damning than the fact that he stayed behind after a game at Cincinnati in late September and was caught on video acting in a flirtatious manner with a woman.

Following that incident, Khan began attending weekly team meetings.

With Darrell Bevell taking over as interim head coach, the players said they are ready to move past the chaos that has gripped the franchise since Meyer was hired.

The quarterback said the new coach brings clarity to the team.

"I wouldn't believe you if you told me how this year was going to go," Lawrence said. The coaching change brings some clarity to the guys in the locker room. I wouldn't say relief, but I would say just bring some clarity and direction.

We really want to finish the season strong and it's been hard the last week with everything going on. There's a lot of things being stirred up by the outside. That made things worse, but also everything that's going on.

It's hard to be focused when there are so many things going on.

The Associated Press and Michael DiRocco contributed to the report.
