JetBlue Adds Mosaic+ Status Tier, Mint Upgrades

The execution of the new elite status tier is a bit strange, if you ask me.

There is a new Mosaic+ elite status.

Mosaic status is the only elite tier that JetBlue has had in the past. The Mosaic+ elite tier will be introduced in the year 2022. This tier has an awesome perk, but the execution here is downright bizarre.

The Mosaic+ status requirements for JetBlue.

There will be two ways to get Mosaic+ status.

You can earn it by accruing 45,000 Mosaic Qualifying Points, which is equivalent to spending $15,000 on a flight.
You can earn it if you spend $150,000 on a co- branded JetBlue credit card.

This elite tier won't be easy to earn because Mosaic+ requires triple as much engagement as Mosaic status. You can earn Mosaic+ based on your activity between January 1 and December 31, 2022. The status is only valid for the year 2022, so it will be expired on December 31, 2022. If you earn Mosaic+ status on November 30, 2022, you will only benefit from it for a month.

It will be difficult to earn Mosaic+ status.

Mint upgrade certificates are offered by JetBlue Mosaic+.

Mint is an incredible business class product, but up until now there was no way to upgrade it. Only Mosaic+ members will be affected by that change. Four Mint upgrade certificates will be given to Mosaic+ members. The basic details of how this works are here.

All Mint destinations are valid with upgrade certificates.
All JetBlue economy fares qualify if they are booked at least 96 hours before departure.
24 hours before departure, the upgrade will clear, subject to availability of seats.
If an upgrade isn't available at the 24 hour mark, you will have to keep your seat.
There is no way to upgrade just one person on a record, and upgrade certificates can be used for one travel companion on the same reservation.
If a Mosaic+ member doesn't want to upgrade, they'll have to contact the airline.
It is not possible to give upgrade certificates to others not traveling with you.

Mint upgrade vouchers are being introduced by JetBlue.

The Mosaic+Card is a membership.

FoundsCard Elite membership will be given to Mosaic+ members. Once a member qualifies for Mosaic+, they will receive an email with a link to enroll, and the benefit will be valid for a year. The first year costs $595 and the next year costs $995. Concierge service and elite status with several airlines, hotels, and rental car companies are perks that this offers.

I wouldn't value it that much.

My take on Mosaic+ elite status.

It is exciting to see that this is something that is finally being offered, since it has been a long time since the Mint upgrade for elite members has been offered. There are a few initial thoughts based on this announcement.

The execution here is odd, and not great in terms of engaging members, as Mosaic+ status only lasts for two years, and the status also expires at the end of 2022, which makes this of pretty limited use for many.
I wonder if this will be the first step of better loyalty integration between American AAdvantage and JetBlue TrueBlue, similar to what we have seen between American AAdvantage and Alaska Mileage Plan, and maybe JetBlue elite members will eventually receive systemwide upgrades valid on American's long haul flights out of
The value here is solid for those who enjoy flying and are willing to pay for it. Each upgrade could be worth up to $500 for some people.

I like where they are going with this, but I am not a fan of how short-sighted this is. It isn't great if you can get a status that could last weeks or months after you've earned it, and there's no guarantee of any tier above Mosaic being offered in the future.

Mosaic+ sounds great, but it's temporary.

The bottom line.

The Mosaic+ elite tier will be offered by JetBlue in the year 2022. This will require spending at least $150,000 on a co- branded credit card. The most significant benefit of this status is the ability to confirm an upgrade 24 hours in advance, subject to availability.

It is great to see the introduction of Mint upgrades by JetBlue, but I wish it was valid for a year because it is hard to get excited about something so short-term.

What do you think of the new airline? Do OMAAT readers plan on earning it?
